Martin Jol continues to say smart and sensible things, this time about the transfer window scheduling. Jol has put the Clint Dempsey situation into a bigger picture, saying these issues could be solved without being a distraction to the team if the transfer window shut before the season begun.

“We should stop the window when the first game is played then all this nonsense would stop. If you look at the window now with two weeks to go, it’s awful because there are a lot of clubs waiting around until they get the money in (from sales) and if they have got the money then they will come in and of course then you have players with clauses as well, so I think we should do something about it.”

This isn’t the first time Jol has had to deal with player drama into the start of the season.

“It’s a bit frustrating. I had the same thing happen to me in Germany (with Hamburg).Vincent Kompany left and then (Rafael) van der Vaart left in the same week.”

This actually makes perfect sense. I know the Premier League likes to be nifty by starting and ending the window at the start and end of a month, but logistically it would make things a lot easier for teams, as they could get their teams set and decided before actually needing to play games. It’s a bit late for this now, but could be something the FA would take a look at in the future. They probably won’t though.
