According to the Daily Mail, Louis van Gaal has been allocated a £220 million budget to strengthen Manchester United this summer, with Cesc Fabregas, Kevin Strootman, Koke, Mats Hummels and Miranada on the Dutch manager’s wish list.

Luke Shaw could be the first addition to Van Gaal’s squad this summer, amid suggestions that the Saints left-back is set to seal a £27 million switch to Old Trafford next week.

Further activity in the transfer market will hindered by Van Gaal’s involvement in the World Cup as manager of the Netherlands national team and United CEO Ed Woodward’s inexperience with transfers.

Van Gaal is said to be utilising his long list of contacts within the game, especially those he accrued during his time managing Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Nevertheless, Munich midfielder Toni Kroos recently quashed rumours of a move to United, insisting that he will play his football at the Allianz Arena next season.

In light of their inability to lure Kroos to the Premier League, the Red Devils set their sights on Roma’s Kevin Strootman but had a £25 million bid rebuffed by the Serie A runners-up.
