Mertesacker and Sagna close to signing new deals with Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that defenders Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna are close to agreeing a contract extension.

Wenger stated : “We are making good progress, and hopefully we can announce something soon.”

When asked about any new signings, Wenger was skeptical as usual and replied: “The transfer window is open until January 31. Are we close to signing anybody? At the moment I would say no.”

Regarding his own future, he said: “There is always a point where you have to decide, of course. There is a point where you have to decide and there is a point where you have to make your decision public. You can take that sentence the way you want.”
