Manchester United fans on social media have criticized Casemiro for his display in their 1-1 draw with Burnley in the Premier League.

The Red Devils took on the relegation-threatened Clarets at Old Trafford on Saturday, April 27. The match remained goalless well into the second half before Antony gave the hosts the lead in the 79th minute.

United looked on course to secure a win, but as has been the case in recent weeks, gave away an equalizer. After a Burnley cross was cleared straight up inside the box, Casemiro tried to cushion a header to Andre Onana, but didn't get enough on it. Onana leapt forward to punch it away, but connected with Zeki Amdouni instead, giving away a penalty.

Amdouni then scored the spot-kick to make it 1-1 in the 87th minute. It means Manchester United have now conceded in each of their last eight games across competitions, and have let leads slip in five of those outings.

After the match, fans of the club on X (formerly Twitter) slammed Casemiro for the error, with one of them writing:

"Casemiro has cost us so many times this season, he should be on his way out as well"

Another tweeted:

"A player of Casemiro’s caliber shouldn’t be making such kind of mistakes. That’s top tier clumsiness."

A third Manchester United fan wrote:

"The pen could've been avoided if Casemiro was a half-serious player."

Here are a few more reactions from fans:

Apart from his error for Burnley's goal, Casemiro, playing once again at centre-back, also struggled with his passing, completing just 41 of his 59 attempts. However, the Brazilian won six of his nine duels while recording two clearances, three blocks and three tackles (including a last-man tackle).

Erik ten Hag slams referees but adds that Manchester United have to "look in the mirror" after Burnley draw

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was far from pleased with the refereeing after his side's match against Burnley.

While admitting that the decision to award the Clarets a spot-kick was the right one, he felt United deserved a penalty for a hand-ball in the second half. Ten Hag referenced the penalty right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka gave away against Coventry City in their FA Cup semifinal to reinforce his point.

He told Sky Sports:

"We are not lucky with the referee. Over the last weeks, so many penalties we concede. This one was justified, but on the other hand, I have seen 2-3 penalty situations, minimum one is a 100% penalty.
"I think [Alejandro] Garnacho, he had one, he was hit. And the last handball is a 100% penalty... Wan-Bissaka in the semifinal - if you make that a penalty, what is this? It is really inconsistent."

When probed about taking the referee out of the equation and scoring the goals they needed to win, the Manchester United manager added:

"Of course, we have to look in the mirror and we make a mistake on the 1-1. But you are dependent [on the referees] and they should take responsibility and understand what it means for the team and the manager."

The result left United in sixth place in the Premier League with 54 points from 34 matches, 12 behind fourth-placed Aston Villa and only one ahead of Newcastle United in seventh.
