Fans reacted on social media as Erik ten Hag named Antony in United's starting lineup to take on Burnley

Manchester United fans slammed Erik ten Hag for including Brazilian winger Antony in the starting lineup for their upcoming Premier League fixture against Burnley.

The 24-year-old forward arrived at the club in the summer of 2022 after an impressive spell at Eredivisie side Ajax. United paid a whopping €95 million to acquire his services, a fee that he has not been able to justify yet.

Antony has really struggled for form and gametime since his arrival at the club, with just 10 goals and five assists in 79 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions.

This season, his form has really struck a new low, which has clearly antagonized United fans. He has scored only two goals, both in the FA Cup, and added just two assists in 35 games across all competitions.

United fans took to social media to vent their frustration after Antony was named in Erik ten Hag's starting lineup against Burnley. One fan said:

"ETH [Erik ten Hag] has to be shown doors for these kind of decisions."

Another added:

"Get this manager out now."

Here is a list of fan reactions (via X):

"Genuinely shocking," one fan said.
"At this, we're surely having A Mad Diallo," another added.
"He must be sacked, I can't believe his obsession with Antony," another exclaimed.
"Antony starting over Amad again," another fan sighed.
"What does Amad need to do to start a match?" another wondered.
"Man will always throw his Antony in our faces... someday, ETH will tell us what he has against Amad starting for Man United," another fan disappointedly proclaimed.
"When will Erik ten Hag learn, I would prefer Amad over Antony," another opined.

Although they are expressing their discontent over Antony's selection, Manchester United fans will be hoping that the Brazilian can finally deliver and right his wrongs over the 2023-24 season.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag explains the lack of gametime for Ivorian winger Amad Diallo

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has explained the lack of gametime for young Ivorian forward Amad Diallo this season.

The 21-year-old has made just seven appearances for United this season, netting just once. However, that one goal was the fourth in their iconic 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals.

Diallo has become a key player for Ten Hag over the last couple of weeks. Ten Hag feels that he could be deserving of a spot in the starting lineup, but he's not quite there yet, saying (via Metro):

“So we rebuilt him, he’s now had some opportunities, he’s really contributed. But also he played in a position that is not his best position, I would say. Started as a striker but then he has to play in the midfield, so he did well... We have a number of players in that area, there’s big competition there, and actually he already has deserved more minutes I would say."

It will be interesting to see if Ten Hag brings Diallo on if Manchester United find themselves in a tricky situation against Burnley in their next Premier League fixture.
