"I dived into Google to check him out" - Liverpool legend admits he 'knew nothing' about Arne Slot ahead of Anfield appointment

Robbie Fowler has admitted that he was completely unaware of Arne Slot before he came to know about reports linking him with Liverpool. The club icon revealed that he had to research on Google to find out more about the Dutch boss.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool's appointment of Slot is confirmed as an agreement has been reached on the contract details with Feyenoord.

Writing in his column for The Mirror, Fowler touched upon Jurgen Klopp's final season at Anfield and offered his two cents on Slot's impending arrival. The former Liverpool striker wrote:

"I’ll be honest, I hadn’t a clue Slot was even in the conversation among the power brokers who run Liverpool. He wasn’t someone who jumped out at me as a candidate. In fact, I knew nothing about Slot at all or the way he plays and, ­probably like many people, I dived into Google to check him out."

He added:

"He’s done OK at Feyenoord the last couple of seasons, but only time will tell if he can take Liverpool to greater heights than Klopp managed. That will be a tall order, but the more pressing problem for Liverpool is getting some stability back into players feeling the effects of Jurgen’s imminent departure. They’ve had nearly nine years of Klopp at ­Liverpool and suddenly everything is about to change."

The Merseysiders will next face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on 5 May.

"There’s going to be a transition" - Robbie Fowler explains Liverpool's recent slump in form

Fowler has attributed the Reds' recent dip in form to long-standing manager Jurgen Klopp's departure and the transitionary period the club will have to go through.

The Merseyside outfit was in the race for the Premier League title alongside Arsenal and Manchester City. However, defeats in crucial games against Crystal Palace and Everton, and a draw against West Ham United have dealt Liverpool's title hopes a huge blow.

The Reds are now third in the standings, a point behind second-placed Manchester City, who have two games in hand over them. Arsenal, meanwhile, lead the table two points ahead of the Reds with a game in hand.

Writing in his aforementioned column for The Mirror, Fowler said:

"Now, the players are in the dark and probably feel in limbo because they know it’s going to be different. You could see against Everton, and even against West Ham, it wasn’t the performance of a Klopp team – ­everything was off."

"People might say the players are paid to play, so get on with it, but it’ll be tough for them. The familiarity they’ve known is going to change and there’s going to be a transition because Klopp is a force of nature and the new man, whoever it is, won’t be the same."
