Phillip Lahm: Mesut Ozil will become devastating for Arsenal next season

Mesut Ozil has been handed a boost by his Germany team-mate, Phillip Lahm, after the Bayern Munich man backed the Arsenal midfielder to excel even more next season in north London.

Ozil joined the Gunners in September 2013 and got off to an electric start at the club, with the fans instantly taking to him. However, Ozil’s form dropped and he began to suffer with various injuries which ruled him out for large parts of the campaign, which coupled with Arsenal’s dramatic loss in form.

Lahm however, believes Ozil, who admitted recently he needs to score more goals, needed time to settle in and has backed the former Madrid man to shine next season in the Premier League.

He told Goal: “Anybody who has played with Mesut will tell you how intelligent he is as a player. His vision is probably the best I have ever seen and that is why it is so important to have the right striker ahead of him.

“He is a dream for strikers and you saw that with [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Karim] Benzema when he was at Madrid. If Arsenal can find the right striker who is fast and makes intelligent runs – then Mesut will be devastating next season.”

Ozil lifted his first silverware as a Gunners player two weeks ago after helping Arsenal defeat Hull in the FA Cup Final.
