Real Madrid news: Former player recommends Joachim Low for manager role to Florentino Perez

What's the story?

Former Real Madrid player and coach Bernd Schuster believes that Germany coach Joachim Low would be the best fit for the managerial role at Real Madrid and has claimed that he has even recommended the World Cup-winning manager to club president Florentino Perez.

Real Madrid has had a number of managerial changes this season following the shocking departure of Champions League-winning boss Zinedine Zidane last summer.

Julen Lopetegui replaced the Frenchman but it was not long before the club came crashing down in the standings, having had one of their worst starts to a season.

Lopetegui was sacked soon after Madrid crashed to an embarrassing Clasico defeat at the hands of longstanding rivals Barcelona. The club then appointed Santiago Solari, under whom the club minutely progressed but saw no dramatic developments.

Despite Solari's contract running till 2021, there have been varied reports that the club are looking for a bigger name and a more efficient coach to replace the Argentine this summer.

The heart of the matter

Former West Germany international Schuster has stated that a summer approach for Low would not surprise him, adding that he has also recommended his services to Perez.

Speaking to German newspaper Die Welt, the former Los Blancos player said, "I spoke with president Florentino Perez at an honorary event and I explicitly mentioned Low."

"[Perez] looked at me oddly, as if I had surprised him. Germans are very highly regarded at Real. After all, we have done a good job there, I would not be surprised if the Real tried to hire Low next summer."

Many names have been linked with the managerial post at the Bernabeu including former boss Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.
