Madrid, Nov 7 (IANS) Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo on Monday signed his new contract with Real Madrid until 2021 in an event held at the Santiago Bernabeu in the presence of the club's President Florentino Perez.

Cristiano's current contract should have ended in June 2018 after extending his first contract in March 2013. Monday's extension will allow Ronaldo to play with the Los Blancos until he turns 36, reports Efe.

Cristiano signed the new contract along with Perez, who handed the player a shirt with his name on it as well as the number 2021.

Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in 2009 for a record 94 million euros ($104 million).

If Ronaldo manages to complete this new contract, he would then complete 12 years with the Merengues.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the fifth Real Madrid player to extend their contract this season, after Toni Kroos, Lucas Vazquez, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale.
