The Daily Mirror reports that Manchester United are planning a last ditch effort to land a replacement for Patrice Evra this January window, who is possibly nearing the end of his career.

Scouts of the manager, David Moyes, have been keeping close tabs on the talented 21-year old, who recently broke into the star studded Spanish national team.

The Red Devils look to have given up on prime targets Leighton Baines, who is ready to commit his long term future to Everton, and Real Madrid outcast Fabio Coentrao, who looks unlikely to make the switch to the Premier League.

The current league champions have been in awful form this season, languishing in seventh place, a humongous 14 points off the summit. David Moyes is in increasing danger of missing out on a top four position, unless he does something drastic to turn their fortunes around.

Having been handed substantional transfer funds, the new manager will look to invest this winter in a desperate attempt to salvage the campaign. The full back is likely to cost a handful, with the asking price expected to be in the region of £18 million.
