TAL Season 3 (Division 1): Gameweek 4 Review

Parikrma and Horizons FC sneaked through for the second week running with narrow victories over Gremio FC and Mercurial FC. Flipkart put last week’s disappointment behind them by coming from behind to beat FC Kougen Kikou. Project 7 continued their resurgence with a well-deserved victory over Rare Dare FC. Samba FC and Mavericks FC played out a dull goalless draw.

FC Kougen Kikou 2-3 Flipkart FC

The day got off to a cracking start as FC Kougen Kikou took on Flipkart FC in a crucial game for both teams. Both teams had been playing well but did not have the results to show for it so far. Kougen Kikou’s frustrations continued as they were edged out by Flipkart despite taking the lead early on.

Despite going behind to a Pavan Powar brace later on, Kougen Kikou showed character in levelling things up albeit through an own goal. Rohit Gautam though scored immediately after that to snatch a victory for his team. Kougen Kikou are struggling in 11th place with just a point in four games. Flipkart have progressed to 6th place and will look to kick on from here on.

Scorers: Daichi Takiishi 10', Sarwar Hasib (OG) 44' (FC Kougen Kikou); Pavan Powar 18', 41’; Rohit Gautam 47' (Flipkart FC)

Rare Dare FC 0-1 Project 7

A 24th-minute goal from Rahul Singh clinched the game for Project 7 against Rare Dare. Though Rare Dare would have been the favorites going into this one, the game panned out differently. Rare Dare could not muster anything constructive in attack and though only a solitary goal was scored, Project 7 were deserving winners.

This result seems them climb up to 4th place, probably their highest in TAL so far. Rare Dare meanwhile, drop down to 9th and need to devise plans to make up for the losses of their suspended players for another game.

Scorers: Rahul Singh 24' (Project 7)

Gremio FC 1-2 Parikrma FC

Parikrma FC did just about enough in their game against Gremio FC to emerge victorious and stay on top of the table. It will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Gremio players after having taken the lead and played outstanding for most of the match. But Parikrma hung on and never gave up, credit for which must go to them. This is the second consecutive game where they have left it till late, making it even more excruciating for both themselves and their opponents.

Gremio will take a lot of positives from this performance when they meet the other title challengers later on in the season. For Parikrma, all that matters now are the three points even though the swagger and the abundant goal-scoring form of last season has gone missing.

Scorers: Danush D 20' (Gremio FC); Appu J 33', Andrew Louise 51' (Parikrma FC)

Samba FC 0 - 0 Mavericks FC

Samba FC and Mavericks FC played out a disappointing goalless draw in the second game after lunch. This must have been a setback more for Samba FC than Mavericks as they would have expected to win this one. There was hardly anything created on the attacking front worth a mention by both teams, although Samba had the better of a few half chances.

Both teams lacked the cutting edge that is usually the deciding factor in such cagey affairs. Samba FC remain winless and in the final relegation spot with just two points. Mavericks lie a couple of spots above them in 8th. Samba FC have a tricky fixture list ahead as they look to climb out of the relegation zone as quickly as possible.

Horizons FC 1-0 Mercurial FC

The last game of the day produced probably the most surprising scoreline of the day as Horizons managed to beat Mercurial FC only by a solitary goal. With a huge goal difference to make up, Horizons would have been expected to put the bottom placed team in the league to the sword. But Mercurial FC put on a very good display and even threatened to equalize in the dying moments of the game, with only the crossbar denying them.

Karthigeyan was the game’s only scorer with a goal from outside the box in the 20th minute. Mercurial hit the crossbar late in the game and a point would have had them off the mark, but this season bears much resemblance for the team sitting at the bottom of the table. Horizons are in second albeit only on goal difference from league leaders Parikrma.

Scorers: Karthigeyan Janardhan 20' (Horizons FC)
