Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy tried to prevent Mesut Ozil's Arsenal move

If reports in Spain are to be believed then Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy tried to prevent Mesut Ozil from joining Arsenal by appealing to Real Madrid’s partnership with Spurs, according report by The Express.

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial report that Levy feels ‘betrayed’ by Real Madrid’s decision to sell Ozil to their cross-town rivals after he himself inquired about the player’s availability in July and again in August as a potential makeweight in Gareth Bale‘s transfer to Real Madrid.

At the time of Levy’s inquiry Perez was adamant that Ozil was not for sale, but the situation changed as the transfer window drew to a close and Real Madrid needed to bring some money in to balance the books after a busy summer, where they broke the transfer record on Bale’s transfer from Tottenham.

On receiving a call from Levy, who tried to get Real to pull the plug on Arsenal, Perez told the Spurs chairman that Ozil’s move to Arsenal was all but complete.

The developments of the summer are likely to strain the partnership between Tottenham and Real Madrid as Spurs delayed the sale of Bale to Real Madrid so that they could bring in replacements after Madrid’s way of conducting business had incensed the Lilywhites.

Sky Sports News had claimed ahead of the North London Derby that Levy was waiting until after the match on Sunday to sell Bale to Madrid to prevent Arsenal signing players from the Spanish giants and fielding them against Spurs.
