Rumour: Tottenham Hotspur handed boost in securing Fabio Capello

Fabio Capello Attends a Press Conference in Xiamen, China - June 27, 2007

In recent developments, manager Fabio Capello is said to be stalling on a deal which aims to extend his stay in Russia until 2018. This comes as a massive boost to Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy, as he looks to replace Andre Villas-Boas.

Fabio Capello has been touted as the first choice successor to the Portuguese, who was given the sack in rather acrimonious circumstances. Other names linked to the hot seat were Guus Hiddink and Tim Sherwood, who now looks to be off the radar.

Franco Baldini, the current Tottenham Hotspur technical director, has been the Italian’s wing man at several clubs, and has worked closely with him. Speculation is rife that Baldini is gunning to bring his compatriot to White Hart Lane to fill the vacant managerial position.

With the Capital One Cup debacle mid-week, the Tottenham Hotspur management will be looking to act swiftly.
