Video: Andre Villas-Boas confirms departure of Gareth Bale

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas Boas has confirmed the departure of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

He wished the Welshman “all the best” at the Bernabeu.

The protracted transfer of Welsh forward Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid has finally reached an end.

“The player is an absolute wonderful player, he is going to join Real Madrid so we wish him all the best. He has left us with great memories from last season which I think every Tottenham fan cherishes but he has moved on and we move on as well.”

His now former boss Andre Villas-Boas confirmed the departure after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal – with Real Madrid announcing a six year contract for the 24-year old on their website.

The move is believed to be worth around 100 million euros, which would make it a new world record fee – eclipsing the 93 million euros Madrid paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

“We have to move forward. There are lots of clubs that have this type of transfer activity and they just have to move forward. You can only look as Swansea for example, outside we can look at FC Porto that loses five or six players and reinvests once again. So at the moment Tottenham has made some great, great reinvestments from all of the money from Gareth Bale into the team which is wonderful.”
