The Arspective

Hi Arsenal Fans,

It was a wonderful weekend for the gunners. Joy of six! Theo Walcott completed the Hattrick, Marouanne the Morroccan (Chamakh) scored his first goal and Diaby and Arshavin helped themselves to goal a piece as the Blackpool demolition was completed. One does feel sorry for the Blackpool players and their coach as they got a rude awakening to the reailty of football in the top-flight.

It was a much-needed performance by Theo Walcott and even though this was not the best defence in the premier league by any stretch, his clinical finishing and runs down the right side to get behind the full-backs, his crossing was of first-class and that is the Walcott Wenger would have had in his mind when he signed the 16-yr old rookie from Southampton for twelve million pounds. Two of the three goals he scored were side-footers deftly placing them past the helpless Blackpool goalie. Minimum power and maximum result, principle on which Arsene Wenger wants to build the club. The first goal was probably the most delightful, with some crisp one-touch passing, before the ball was ‘passed’ into the net by Wally. The last one, I would say a very important one, if not the most important, as Chamakh scored his first goal. It was so important for Chamakh’s confidence that he scores his first goal ASAP. And if he did not scored a single goal in a 6-0 route of a newly promoted team, that would have stayed in his mind until he scored the first goal. Particularly, after missing a sitter when he missed an open goal from five yards when Arshavin had put the ball in ‘his plate’.

In Koscielny’s absence, Song was solid in the centre-back along side Vermaelen. Nasri’s one month injury meant that Jack Wilshere got the second start of his Arsenal career. The young Brit did look impressive again. Fabregas and Robin Van Persie returned to complete a joyous day for the gunners. Thomas Rosicky has quietly played a couple of decent games. Lets hope that his injuries are behind him as he is a very stylish mid-fielder who Arsenal can do with. he has good one-touch passing and the ability to shoot from range. It is just a matter of getting some confidence back and the Czech can become a very impotant player for us.

More good news for the Arsenal fans, as the gunners ‘almost’ completed the signing of French Defender Sebastian ‘Toto’ Squilacci from Sevilla. I say almost because the Frenchman has yet to complete the medical test before he is announced as an Arsenal player. He will provide good competition for Koscielny and Djourou.

I believe that we only need a goal-keeper now to complete the jigsaw puzzle that Wenger has been trying to solve for the last five years. Fulham want more than the 2.5 million that Arsenal are offering. Despite the transfer request being handed by the Australian, Fulham are trying to hang-on to the him. The fact that he dint play in either of the two premier league games means that he is on his way out and we do not need to increase the bid.

Elsewhere, Fulham drew Machester United as Bobby Zamora tormented them again. Newcastle’s 6-0 win over Aston Villa was the shock result of the week and probably will be the shock-reult of the season. Carrol, who was impressive for the Magpies even in their loss to ManU scored a hat-trick and bad boy ‘Barton’ scored a brace in the demolition of Villa.

Until next time then, enjoy the week.
