All it needed was one special innings to do the needful for the Royal Strikers but they sure found themselves in a pickle today. Chasing a modest target of 76, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and never got any kind of impetus into their chase.

The bowlers were on top of their mark for Gozo, with Waseem Abbas and Ajeesh Antony hitting those hard lengths to good effect while extracting extra bounce. With the chase going nowhere at the halfway mark, all the onus was on skipper Priyan Pushparajan to deliver the goods and avert a third straight loss for the Strikers.

He obliged to great effect, tearing into Bibek Basnet in the 7th over to turbocharge the chase ahead of the eight-ball. Once he got into his zone, there was nothing that the Gozo bowlers could do despite their best efforts with a couple more wickets falling at the other end. The game did stretch into the final over but fittingly enough, it was Pushparajan himself who applied the final stamp of authority to wrap things up with a boundary.

So the Strikers finally get on the board while Gozo lose their second game of the season. They will look to put this behind them quickly and bounce back - still early days in the tournament but you don't want to be playing catch-up alright!

As easy as that! What a stellar innings this has been by Pushparajan. He has single-handedly powered his side to their first win of the season just when they needed one. Take a bow, skip!
