McCullum: "It was definitely a hard-fought win. The improvement the Sri Lankan side showed throughout the series was pretty obvious. On a surface which was more suited to us, credit to Angelo and his boys for putting us under immense pressure. Thankfully for us we were able to withstand through an innings of sheer quality from the king (Williamson). I thought it was an outstanding innings on the back of the efforts from the bowlers as well. Short-pitched bowling became a real weapon on a wicket that had a lot of pace and bounce. The tactics both teams used on this wicket was spot on and thankfully we were able to come out on the right side of it. Our bowling group is world-class. We know we can take 20 wickets when we are on song. It is just about working in groups."

Mathews: "We had a chance, but we made a mess of out batting in the second innings. Chameera is still finding his feet in Test cricket, but the way he bowled was amazing. Overseas, you have got to learn quickly. New Zealand are the deserved winners. We put them under pressure, but they bounced back well."

Williamson: "It was an interesting surface. The Sri Lankan bowlers put us under a lot of pressure. A lot of credit has to go to our bowlers. Credit to Sri Lanka as well for fighting hard. The surface is here is always a little green, but it was unique in the fact that there was a lot more bounce on this surface. Both teams used the short ball ploy. I don't look at the years, I just look at the series that is coming up."

Williamson is the Man of the Match for his 108 in the second innings.
