Are the Jacksonville Jaguars Super Bowl Contenders? 

The Jacksonville Jaguars made a statement yesterday against the Seattle Seahawks in a 30-24 win. They improved to 9-4 on the year and Jacksonville is currently the number three seed in the AFC. This team has been basically fixed overnight by Tom Coughlin in the front office.

They have a true identity in running the football and playing solid defence. That's how Tom Coughlin won two Super Bowls as the New York Giants head coach.

Rookie Leonard Fournette has rushed for 923 yards on 231 carries and eight touchdowns. Fournette has also caught 29 passes for 213 yards receiving and a touchdown. After Fournette, the running game is a drop-off. Chris Ivory has rushed for 340 yards on 95 carries and a touchdown.

The running game is the focal point of the offence, but they need good quarterback play from Blake Bortles. He has completed 247-of-410 passes for 2,821 yards 16 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Bortles has also rushed for 282 yards on 51 carries and two touchdowns. Bortles is an average quarterback at best, but can he really keep up with Phillip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, and/ Tom Brady in the playoffs? I don't think so. If they had like a Kirk Cousins, Eli Manning and/or Case Keenum, they would be better off, but with this system in place it helps Bortles.

Marqise Lee has caught 56 passes for 702 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Allen Hurns has caught 36 passes for 446 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Keelan Cole has caught 25 passes for 421 yards and two touchdowns. He is an undrafted rookie free agent from Kentucky Wesleyan.

Surprisingly, Jacksonville is ranked 11th in the NFL in total offence. Jacksonville has scored 329 points so far this season.

On defence, Calais Campbell has recorded 12.5 sacks, recorded 47 tackles, has forced three fumbles, and also has scored a defensive touchdown. He could be the defensive player of the year.

Telvin Smith leads the team with 83 tackles. He also has one forced fumble, three interceptions, and one defensive touchdown. Myles Jack has recorded 82 tackles and has two forced fumbles.

Jacksonville has the most underrated secondary in the NFL. A.J. Bouye has six interceptions. Tashaun Gipson and Jalen Ramsey each one of them has four interceptions.

Overall, Jacksonville has recorded 47 sacks so far this season and they also have 19 interceptions. Jacksonville is ranked second in the NFL in total defence. They have given up 202 points so far this season. The Jaguars defence will keep them in games week in and week out, but this team cannot win the Super Bowl unless the offence fires on all cylinders.
