David Montgomery, recently joined the Detroit Lions during the 2023 season of the National Football League. Undoubtedly, the season has proven to be his best to date for him, amassing over 1,000 rushing yards, securing 13 touchdowns and clinching the NFC North division title with the Lions. In the past, Montgomery represented the Chicago Bears in the running back position. During his time with the Bears, he was honored with the Brian Piccolo Award twice, in 2019 and 2022.

Montgomery was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on 7 June 1997. While growing up, he experienced a turbulent childhood, being raised by his single mother while facing financial struggles. Developing an interest in football, he began playing high school football at Mount Healthy Jr/Sr High School in Ohio, where he was considered a dual threat quarterback. Despite concluding his high school career with 6,666 yards and 91 touchdowns, he only received offers from Miami University, Ball State University, Buffalo and Iowa State University. Eventually, he enrolled at Iowa State University, where he played college football for the Cyclones from 2016 to 2018. During his time at Iowa State, his performance earned him a spot on First-team All-Big 12 in 2017 and then on Second-team All-Big 12 in 2018.

At the conclusion of the 2018 season at Iowa State, Montgomery opted out of his final season of eligibility. He entered the 2019 NFL Draft and was selected by the Chicago Bears as the 73rd overall pick in the third round. Following the 2021 season, Montgomery found himself placed as the 98th rank on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2022.

As of the 2023 season, Montgomery is earning a base salary of $1,250,000. According to his current three-year contract with the Lions, the deal is valued at $18,000,000, inclusive of a signing bonus amount of $4,500,000 with a guaranteed amount of $11,000,000 and an average annual salary of $6,000,000. Furthermore, in 2024, he will earn a base salary of $5,250,000.
