Derwin Alonzo James Jr. is an American football safety for the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL. The Chargers drafted him with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Throughout his six-season NFL career, he has earned the Pro Bowl selection thrice in 2018, 2021, and 2022. He was also named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2018. He has recorded a total of 521 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 8 interceptions throughout his career as of October 2024.

Before entering the NFL, he played collegiate football at Florida State University from 2015 to 2017, finishing his collegiate career with 186 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 3 interceptions. Notably, he earned First-team All-American honors in 2017 and was named First-team All-ACC twice, in both 2016 and 2017. A native of Florida, James Jr. played high school football at Auburndale High School in Auburndale and Haines City High School in Haines City. He was rated the No. 1 safety by ESPN, Rivals, 247Sports, and Scout and was a five-star recruit in the 2015 class.
