A well-known face in the NFL for the past ten years is that of current New Orleans Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr. Starting his professional career with the then-Oakland Raiders (Las Vegas Raiders) in 2014, Carr has enjoyed a mixed career thus far in terms of individual and team honors. His 9 seasons with the Raiders have earned him 4 selections to the Pro Bowl but apart from that he has yet to achieve anything of substance in the league with neither individual awards nor a Super Bowl win.

In 2023, Carr was traded to the Saints where he now plays in the NFC South consisting of the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Neither one of the four teams in the NFC South has had double-digit winning seasons for the past two years. Thus, it is the ideal time for Carr to take the next step and try to guide his team to a deep playoff run.

Derek and Heather Carr's First Meeting

Despite both Derek Carr and Heather Carr (née Neel) attending the same college - Fresno State, the pair did not actually meet on campus for their first meeting. In a chance encounter, Carr laid eyes on his future wife when she waited on him at a dinner called BJ’s Brewhouse as told by Heather Carr during a 2013 interview with ABC7.

Carr felt an immediate connection with her and was taken aback by her beauty. In order to get her attention, he used a rather unique pick-up line when he asked her “Why are you only wearing one earring?”, according to ‘People’. Since Heather was aware she was wearing both her diamond earrings she understood Carr’s intentions.

Eventually, the couple ended up getting married on June 29, 2012, even before Carr was drafted into the NFL.
