The Lombardi Trophy, which is the most coveted trophy in the NFL, is awarded to the team that comes out on top in a Super Bowl game. While the Lombardi Trophy is awarded to the whole team, every individual- from coaches to general staff to even fans of the Super Bowl-winning team- is presented with the Super Bowl ring. According to TalkSPORT, Jostens are usually responsible for crafting the Super Bowl ring.

Cost of a Super Bowl ring

It is difficult to estimate the exact cost of a Super Bowl ring. The main reason is that various franchises and teams have many customization opportunities and can use varying numbers of diamonds and other gemstones depending on their requirements and specific reasons. However, the final cost of a Super Bowl ring is estimated to be between $30,000 and $50,000, as reported by Sports Illustrated. The NFL contributes around $5,000 - $7000 towards each ring up to 150 in number for the winning team.

What are the Super Bowl rings are made of?

Almost all of the rings are made of yellow or rose gold. Most rings will also contain the ‘World Champions’ engraving on the ring, the team name, logo, and the Super Bowl number in Roman numerals. Many of the rings also contain larger diamonds in the shape of a football to depict the number of Lombardi Trophies the franchise has won, like the Green Bay Packers XLV ring, as per Sports Illustrated.

Value and resale of Super Bowl rings

While replicas of Super Bowl rings are popular collectibles, there have also been instances of genuine rings getting sold in the market. A couple of Pittsburgh Steelers rings from 1970 were sold for $69,000 each on eBay. Dave Meggett, former NFL running back, also placed his ring on eBay for sale. A former safety Je'Rod Cherry also sold his Super Bowl ring by donating to various charities.
