How do NFL Playoffs work?

The current NFL playoffs format was first introduced in the year 2020. With this change, a total of 14 teams will be competing in the playoffs. Of these 14 teams, seven will be from the AFC Conference and the remaining seven from the NFC Conference.

The hunt for the Super Bowl begins in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs. The top seed (No. 1 seed) from both conferences will get a bye and directly play in the divisional round.

The wild card round will consist of the following seeds from each of the conferences battling it out to advance to the next round of the playoffs:

American Football Conference

No. 2 seed vs. No. 7 seed

No. 3 seed vs. No. 6 seed

No. 4 seed vs. No. 5 seed

National Football Conference

No. 2 seed vs. No. 7 seed

No. 3 seed vs. No. 6 seed

No. 4 seed vs. No. 5 seed

Winners will qualify for the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. The No.1 seed of the conference will face the lowest-ranked seed from the remaining teams in the divisional round. The other game in the divisional round will be between the second-highest seed and the second-lowest seed.

The AFC and NFC conference championships will be among the winners of the teams in the divisional round. The winners of the respective conferences will face each other in the Super Bowl with a real shot at the Lombardi Trophy and get crowned as the NFL champions.
