Drake Maye, a football quarterback for the New England Patriots, was born on August 30, 2002. He was drafted by the Patriots as the third pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The quarterback became the first since at least 1950 to lead his team in rushing and throw three touchdown passes in his first start, and his three touchdowns were one more than Brissett had thrown in his five 2024 starts. As of November 2024, he has a record of 2-5, playing in eight games, starting seven, and completing 148 of 226 passes for 1,458 passing yards, ten touchdowns and 21 sacks.

Maye played college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels, where he was named the 2022 ACC Football Player of the Year after leading the NCAA in total yards and setting single-season school records in passing yards and touchdowns. He passed for more than 400 yards in games against Campbell, Miami, and Syracuse in 2023. After rushing for 449 yards and nine touchdowns and passing for 3,608 yards and 24 touchdowns, he was named second-team All-ACC. He ended his career fourth in UNC history in terms of passing touchdowns (63) and fifth in terms of passing yards (8,018).

For starters, Maye’s father, Mark Maye, played college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels as a quarterback for two years in 1986 and 1987. He was the first member of the family to attend the University of North Carolina (UNC) and after several years, three of his sons also became students at UNC. Mark holds the record for the longest passing touchdown in the history of UNC Tar Heels football with a 93-yard pass. At UNC, he studied business administration and spent a brief period of time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, he went back to UNC in order to pursue his MBA. As for Maye’s mother, Aimee, she was also quite the athlete who played basketball during her time in college at the UNC.

Apart from his parents, Drake also has three older brothers who all played sports at UNC. Luke, the oldest sibling, is a professional basketball player who went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft. He plays in the Japanese basketball league's Nagoya Diamond Dolphins as of November 2024. His two other brothers, Beau and Cole Maye, also played collegiate sports. Beau played on the UNC’s basketball team for one year, while Cole won a national championship with the Florida Gators baseball team in 2017.
