Jake Browning is an American football player who currently plays as a quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals. He was the backup quarterback to Joe Burrow but he has now been handed the reins to the Bengals offense following the season-ending wrist injury to QB1 Burrow.

For Browning, this is the time to shine as he has had a very quiet four seasons in the NFL up to now. Once a highly touted quarterback during his high school and early college days, he somehow fell off of NFL scouts' radars after his shoulder injury in his sophomore year at college. Playing for the Washington Huskies football team, Browning’s performances started to dip after his injury.

After that, even though he played decently well in his junior and senior years, he was never considered in the top rounds of the draft. Eventually, when all was said and done, Browning found himself undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. Over the course of his tenure in the NFL so far, Browning’s career earnings are at about $1.7 million. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2019, his entry-level contract was a three-year deal worth $1,770,000. Browning has taken some time to get the starting role on a team. Due to this, he has found himself either as a backup or signed to the practice squad for his four-year tenure up to now.

Browning was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 as an undrafted free agent. He spent two years with the Vikings but never got a chance to play. He spent most of his time being a practice squad member or a backup but never took the field. On August 31, 2021, he was released by the Vikings.

On September 7, 2021, the Cincinnati Bengals signed the former Vikings quarterback to their practice squad. Since then it has taken Browning two more years to get his first action in an NFL game. Nevertheless, now that Burrow is out for the season, the Bengals hope now rests on the shoulders of Browning.
