The Buffalo Bills' current RB1 is the 24-year-old James Cook. He was born in Miami, Florida on September 25, 1999, to parents James Cook Sr. and Varondria Burnett as one of seven siblings. He has three brothers and three sisters and Cook grew up in a big family which went through a lot of hardship.

His father passed away at a young age due to complications from diabetes as a result of which the family lived nearly in poverty for many years. Growing up in Miami, Cook attended Miami Central High School where he played on the school’s football team. He had a good senior year rushing for over 700 yards and 10 touchdowns.

In spite of having few offers, Cook decided to go to the University of Georgia for his higher education. Playing for the Georgia Bulldogs, the Miami native once again had his best season as a senior and developed his receiving game along with his running game. Cook was selected in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills in the second round.

James Cook Brother Dalvin Cook

Cook has an older brother named Dalvin Cook who is also a star running back in the NFL. Dalvin Cook was born in Opa-locka, Florida, on August 10, 1995, making him nearly four years older than Cook.

Dalvin Cook also went to Miami Central High School where he played as a running back on offense and as a defensive back on the defensive side of the ball. He continued to excel athletically and decided to attend Florida State University for his higher education.

In his three years playing for the Florida State Seminoles, Dalvin Cook rushed for 4,464 yards at an average of 6.5 yards per carry and had 46 rushing touchdowns as well. Following his junior year, the 4-time Pro Bowler decided to enter the 2017 NFL Draft.

Dalvin Cook NFL

In the 2017 NFL Draft, Dalvin Cook was selected in the second round with the 41st overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings. The now 28-year-old spent the first 6 seasons of his professional career with the Vikings becoming a key member of their offensive unit. From 2019 to 2022, he had four consecutive seasons of over 1,000 rushing yards. He has also been consistent in the end zone scoring a total of 47 rushing touchdowns.

Prior to the start of the 2023 NFL season, Dalvin Cook was let go and he was signed to a one-year deal by the New York Jets. Unfortunately, though, Cook hardly received any playing time for the Jets getting only 67 carries throughout the entire season. At the end of the regular season, the Jets and Cook mutually decided to part ways.

Currently, Dalvin Cook has signed with the Baltimore Ravens on their practice squad and should be ready to play for the team in the postseason should he be called upon.

James Cook's other siblings

Apart from Dalvin, Cook has six other siblings including three sisters and two brothers. His two other brothers are DeAndre Burnett and Demarcus Cook. His sisters are Daneisha Cook, Jameisha Cook, and Jamiya Cook. There is not much news regarding his sisters.

As for DeAndre, he is the eldest among all seven siblings and he is the only one who has taken his mother’s maiden name. He was a college-level basketball player and also played football but left it to focus more on his basketball career. As per his family members, DeAndre Burnett could have made it in the NFL had he decided to pursue the sport instead of basketball.

Demarcus Cook has also made the news but for the wrong reasons. He was charged with the first-degree murder of a teen in August 2022 following a marijuana deal that turned violent.
