Jarvis Landry is an American professional football player in the NFL. He was born on November 28, 1992, in Metairie, Louisiana, United States. He plays the position of wide receiver. He has created a name for himself as one of the most coveted wide receivers in the NFL.

Hailing from Louisiana, a state that has produced innumerable football stars, Landry’s introduction to the sport was not surprising. Landry attended high school at Lutcher High School. He completed his high school football career after recording 3,902 receiving yards, 50 receiving touchdowns, 875 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns. By the end of his high school career, he was ranked as the 4th best wide receiver in the country and was a 5-star recruit. He also competed in track and field events.

Landry committed to play college football at Louisiana State University (LSU). Landry’s combination of speed, size, agility and IQ made him a top prospect in the eyes of NFL scouts. At LSU, Landry was paired with Odell Beckham Jr. forming one of the deadliest receiver duos in college football history. Landry’s biggest achievement in his college career was being named to the All-Southeastern Conference Second Team. He completed his college career with 1,809 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns.

After forgoing his senior year of college, Landry was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 2014 NFL draft as the 63rd pick in the 2nd round of the draft. He played for the Dolphins for a period of 4 years during which he had many exceptional performances, breaking records and receiving many honors. He was named to the NFL Top 100 list 3 times and played in the Pro Bowl thrice in his four-year stint with the Dolphins.

Landry was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2018. His career with the Browns fuelled his reputation as one of the league’s best wide receivers. He went on to be selected for two more Pro Bowl games and broke multiple records with the Browns. He solidified his reputation of being the best slot receiver in the league and continues to maintain that position.

Aside from his contributions on the field, Landry was well known for using his platform to stand up against racism. He was instrumental in the creation of a video that laid out certain demands from the NFL’s commissioner, in the wake of institutionalized racism.

In 2022, Landry requested to be released from the Cleveland Browns after having faced failure at restructuring his contract. Landry had given his all to the Browns for 4 years but after an injury-plagued season with a lack of productivity in 2021, the Browns were hesitant to restructure his deal. He signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints for a period of one year worth $6 million. The Saints envisioned signing a player who was capable of making tough plays and one who was an unrestricted free agent. He finished the season with 272 receiving yards and 1 touchdown.

Who does Jarvis Landry play for?

For the 2023-24 NFL season, Jarvis Landry is presently a free agent. He was released by the Saints after an unproductive 2022 NFL season. Landry is still one of the best slot receivers in the league. While his status remains unclear, teams that have supposed interest in Landry include the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens. It seems unlikely that the Saints would re-sign Landry unless they believe that his lack of performance was caused due to his ankle injury rather than attributing it to a decline in the receiver's abilities.

Landry would be a good insurance asset for any team if not a first-option receiver in the league. Given his credentials, Landry could also be a very valuable locker room preference and guide for younger players. It would be interesting to see where Landry would end up playing in the 2023-24 NFL season.
