Justin Patrick Herbert is an American football player who plays as a quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL, as of 2024. Herbert was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers with the sixth pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In his first season, he was selected to the PWFA All-Rookie Team and the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He was also named Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America. Herbert was voted 40th by his teammates on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2022 following the 2021 season. In 17 games during the 2022 season, Herbert completed passes for 4,739 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. The Chargers exercised Herbert's contract's fifth-year option in April 2023, but in July Herbert extended his contract with the Chargers for five more years.

Justin Herbert played collegiate football at the University of Oregon. Since 1983, Herbert was the first Oregon freshman to start as quarterback. As a sophomore in 2017, Herbert was named to the PFF First-Team All-Pac-12 Conference, First-Team Pac-12 All-Academic Team, CoSIDA Academic First-Team All-America and CoSIDA Academic All-District 8. In 2018, as a senior, Herbert started all 13 games and for his performance was named to the First-Team All-Pac-12 Conference, First-Team Pac-12 All-Academic Team and with that, he was a Davey O’Brien Award, a Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, and a Maxwell Award semifinalist. Herbert also won the William V. Campbell Trophy.
