Kenny Pickett was, in March 2024, traded by the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for third and fourth-round picks in 2024 and two seventh-round picks in 2025. At the 2022 NFL Draft, the quarterback was the overall 20th pick by the Steelers but got traded after the inclusion of Russell Wilson, as per ESPN.
Before being drafted, reporters believed that Pickett would fumble more frequently due to his short hands (8.5 inches), but as of September 2024, he had only six fumbles. Kenny Pickett went to the University of Pittsburgh in 2017-2021. According to 247Sports, he also reportedly earned scholarship offers from Temple, Coastal Carolina, Buffalo, Boston College, and Coastal Carolina. However, Asbury Park Press reported that during his high school years, he had made a commitment to Temple, though that changed later. In his best season, 2021, he was awarded the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, ACC Player of the Year, and ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Using his last year of eligibility, Pickett became one of the best players in the country. He broke the school record for both career and single-season yards and touchdowns with 4,319 yards and 42 touchdowns. He was also the Heisman Trophy finalist, finishing third.
Pittsburgh achieved their best record since 1976, winning the ACC Championship and going 11-2 in games that Pickett started. After completing his marketing bachelor's degree, he enrolled at the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. In July of that same year, Pickett shared the title of ACC Athlete of the Year for men's sports.
From 2017 to 2021 with the Pittsburgh Panthers, Pickett has played in a total of 52 games, starting 49 of them, for a record of 32-17. He completed 1,045 passes and 1,674 carries for 12,303 passing yards and 81 touchdowns, along with 417 rushing carries for 801 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Kenny Pickett attended Ocean Township High School, where, in the 2017 graduating class, he was ranked as the 21st-best prospect in the state. The coaches in the division recognized Pickett as New Jersey's Class B North, according to the Asbury Park Press.
