Mark Andrews

Mark Andrews is a pass-catching tight end for the Baltimore Ravens who can dominate the red zone. He is often utilized as a downfield threat who excels at getting loose behind coverages. Given his height, Andrews can box out smaller defensive backs and uses the length to create separation. Andrews played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners and was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft.

Andrews is not talked about enough when it comes to how valuable of a player he is for the Ravens’ offense. He helps Lamar Jackson a ton and is seen carrying the offense at times. Unfortunately for the Ravens’ fans, Andrews missed the back end of the regular season with a serious ankle injury. However, he made his return in AFC Championship game.

Andrews has a very versatile game and he can help the squad with many things, such as:

His blocking ability- Andrews is tough and strong. Due to this, he can seal off defenders in the running game. He is a good pass blocker who protects Jackson from all the defensive pressure and helps him make a play.

Being a Red Zone threat- Andrews is taller than most players on the field. This helps him go over defenders to make tough catches. In 2021, Andrews had 9 touchdowns, 1361 receiving yards, and 107 receptions. This earned him a Pro Bowl honor and an All-Pro honor in the same season.

Andrews means a lot to the Ravens. He is one of the most reliable targets who can always be counted on to make a catch. Andrews is one of the most complete tight ends in the NFL today and is a true difference-maker for the team.

After his injury, Ravens’ quarterback, Lamar Jackson, was asked by the reporters about Andrews’ recent injury and he said “That’s the guy who I entered the league with you know… we’ve been bread and butter but that’s very tough ‘cause that’s my boy.” He continued by saying “For him to go out in the first quarter, and he’s been having a remarkable year. One touchdown away from the record I think. That’s tough man. We gotta do it somehow without him.”

Mark Andrews’ Illness

Andrews suffers from type 1 diabetes. He was just nine years of age when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He reportedly pricks his fingers to check his blood sugar levels approximately 30 times in a single game.

Meanwhile, when he is not on the field, Andrews eats a steady diet that prevents his blood sugar levels from fluctuating. The training staff provides him separate bottles of Gatorade Zero which does not have any sugar or carbs, since both can change his sugar levels. Unlike other players, if Andrews needs to snack to get some of his energy back, he eats one or two fruits.

Does Mark Andrews wear an Insulin pump?

Andrews uses an insulin pump and wears a continuous glucose pump because he suffers from Type 1 diabetes. There is currently no cure for Type 1 diabetes but that has not stopped Andrews from going out and achieving his dreams. The insulin pump and glucose pump help him share the blood sugar levels with his family, himself, his agent, and his team’s head trainer.
