NFL stadiums are some of the most unique stadiums in sports largely because they can be either open, domed, semi closed, and can have some interesting shapes and sizes. These stadiums are filled every game day with passionate, and excited fans that support their team to the core. Even though the field dimensions for all stadiums remain constant, the overall architecture of the stadium itself can be quite different. All of the stadiums in the league can seat upwards of 60,000 fans with most of the stadiums having a capacity between 70,000 to 80,000.

Jacksonville Jaguars Home Venue

The TIAA Bank Field is the home venue of the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL franchise. It is located in Jacksonville, Florida and sits on a ten-acre land in the downtown part of the city. Apart from the Jaguars, this stadium is also used for college football, concerts, and other events. The annual Gator Bowl takes place in the same stadium and is also one of the stadiums used by the Men’s National Soccer Team.

Moreover, TIAA Bank Field has had the honor of hosting Super Bowl XXXIX in which the New England Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles. The Jaguars played their first home game in franchise history when they hosted the then Houston Oilers (now Tennessee Titans) and lost by a score of 10-3.

TIAA Bank Field Capacity

TIAA Bank Field has a general capacity of 67,814 but the stadium can be expanded to seat as much as 82,000 fans. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, prior to 2005 seating capacity was reduced mostly due to low attendance. Things started to turn around from the 2010 season onwards and fan attendance began to increase.

For some of the most important games at the stadium which includes the Super Bowl, the Florida-Georgia game and at times the Gator Bowl, the stadium is required to make use of temporary bleachers to accommodate nearly 84,000 fans. However, the record attendance was set by a game between the Florida State Seminoles and the Alabama Crimson Tide on September 29, 2007 when a total of 85,413 attended the game.

TIAA Bank Field Stadium History

The stadium name has undergone several changes starting out as the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in 1995 when the Jaguars became the new expansion team. In 1997 it came to be known as Alltel Stadium as the naming rights were acquired by the Alltel communications company.

Prior to its current name, the stadium was known as EverBank Field. The initial agreement was for a period of five years but was later extended for a further ten years. Thus, EverBank stadium was a pretty well known place for close to fifteen years. EverBank was acquired by the New York based TIAA, the stadium was renamed as TIAA Bank Field in February 2018. However, prior to the start of the 2023 season, the team announced that the stadium would once again come to be known as EverBank Stadium.

TIAA Bank Field Construction and Cost

The stadium has undergone multiple changes throughout its 28 year history but has remained one of the most modern and technologically advanced stadiums from its inception in 1995. At the time of construction the stadium cost approximately $121 million. Just within a span of ten years, the city earned the right to host the Super Bowl and thus the stadium underwent a huge $63 million renovation. The features of the renovation included a terrace suite, a sports bar called the Bud Light Party Zone, a sky patio, plus additional escalators as well as elevators.

In 2014, the stadium installed the largest in-stadium video board in the world measuring 362 feet wide and 60 feet high. The overall fan experience inside the stadium has been greatly enriched. Further renovations continued to take place in 2016 when they introduced 50-yard-line patios for the first time in the league. Even more changes are expected to take place in the future in order to make the TIAA Bank Field a truly world class sporting and entertainment destination.
