Drake Maye is an American football quarterback for the New England Patriots of the National Football League as of November 2024. Born on August 30, 2002, he was selected by the Patriots as the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, he attended Myers Park High School in Charlotte, where he earned the title of MaxPreps North Carolina Player of the Year. As a highly regarded four-star prospect, he initially committed to Alabama but later switched his commitment to North Carolina.

A significant moment came for Maye when the Tar Heels' starting quarterback, Sam Howell, suffered an injury and couldn't play against Wofford. This allowed Maye to showcase his skills in an extended role. Sharing time with the other backup quarterback, Jacolby Criswell, Maye completed an impressive 7 of 9 pass attempts for 89 yards and scored his first career touchdown. Further, he managed to gain 38 yards on four carries.

During the season, he displayed remarkable passing abilities, setting a new single-season passing record for North Carolina with an astounding 4,321 yards. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by Mitch Trubisky. Furthermore, he made his mark in the school's history by securing the 7th spot on the all-time list of passing touchdowns, boasting a total of 39. He ran for 698 yards and seven touchdowns, led the NCAA in total offense with 5,019, and passed for school-records 4,321 yards and 38 touchdowns to earn the ACC Player of the Year award.
