As the years went by Taylor kept improving his coaching skills and in 2012 he was hired as the assistant quarterbacks coach by the Miami Dolphins. In 2018 Zac Taylor was hired as an offensive coordinator by the Los Angeles Rams and won the award of the NFL Assistant Coach of the Year. In 2021 he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as their head coach.

His professional career in the NFL began when he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017 but his career was over before it actually began. Taylor was released by the Buccaneers before the start of the season which marked the end of his NFL career as a football player. Zac Taylor also played college football with many different universities but he ended his college career at the University of Nebraska with the Nebraska Cornhuskers football in 2006.
