Sportskeeda's WWE Division Standings (September 8-14)

Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman Hell in a Cell
Hell in a Cell looms.

Things were mostly quiet on WWE programming this week as fans were served up a slate of disappointing go home shows on Monday and Tuesday. 205 Live had a notable development, but not one which shook things up. Meanwhile, NXT had an episode that was mostly forgettable.

Next week should see a shake up, as Hell in a Cell comes on Sunday.

Here's how WWE's divisions and their players stand on the eve of September's super show.

Raw Men's Division

youtube-cover

#1 Universal Champion Roman Reigns (NC)

#2 Braun Strowman (No.1 contender, Mr. Money in the Bank - NC)

#3 Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins (NC)

#4 Dolph Ziggler (NC)

#5 Drew McIntyre (NC)

#6 Dean Ambrose (NC)

#7 Bobby Lashley (NC)

#8 Kevin Owens (NC)

#9 Acting GM Baron Corbin (NC)

#10 Finn Balor (NC)

Summary

Raw's go home show was a disappointing mess. Nothing of substance changed and it failed to gin up any excitement for the pay per view on Sunday. That comes down entirely to the card WWE has booked for the show.

The Raw men's division shows the least potential for change on Sunday. There's almost no chance that Roman Reigns drops the Universal Championship to Braun Strowman. The most important developments will occur elsewhere on the card.

There's an itneresting tidbit of news that 205 Live stars might be used to manage Raw superstars that have problems with the microphone. We saw it with Drake Maverick and the Authors of Pain and now Lio Rush and Bobby Lashley. This could open the door to new and better feuds, but thus far, nothing has developed.

Raw's men's division has a problem going forward, because aside from Strowman, no one appears a threat to Roman Reigns at the moment. Drew McIntyre's breakout might come sooner rather than later.

Raw Women's Division

youtube-cover

#1 Raw Women's Champion Ronda Rousey (NC)

#2 Alexa Bliss (No.1 contender - NC)

#3 Nikki Bella (+1)

#4 Brie Bella (-1)

#5 Natalya (-2)

#6 Sasha Banks (-1)

#7 Bayley (-1)

#8 Ember Moon (-1)

#9 Dana Brooke (-1)

#10 Ruby Riott (-1)

Summary

Alexa Bliss is still the number one contender, but there's no doubt she's going to fail on Sunday. Nikki Bella is already moving up in the division, creating separation from her sister by virtue of a victory over Ruby Riott. Brie Bella will remain high in the standings for now since she looks like she'll be working on Raw and SmackDown.

The entire situation is a mess. Nikki Bella vs. Ronda Rousey isn't a feud that's going to set the world on fire by any means. The rest of the division is so far in the dust that no compelling programs are on the horizon.

Raw Tag Team Division

youtube-cover

#1 Raw Tag Team Champions Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler (NC)

#2 The Shield (No.1 contenders - +6)

#3 The B-Team (-1)

#4 The Revival (-1)

#5 The Authors of Pain (-1)

#6 Bobby Roode and Chad Gable (NC)

#7 Titus Worldwide (-2)

#8 The Ascension (-1)

Summary

To the surprise of no one The Shield vs. Ziggler and McIntyre was made official for Hell in a Cell. The tag team division, like the women's and men's divisions of Raw, is a mess, because the rest of the pack is so far in the dust of the top teams that no compelling programs immediately present themselves as being possible. For the sake of the division, Ziggler and McIntyre need to retain on Sunday while other teams get build up behind them.

Roode and Gable picked up another win over The Ascension, bumping them up above Titus Worldwide but not changing their overall rank. The Authors of Pain had a squash win. Now is the time to build them up into title contention.

SmackDown Men's Division

youtube-cover

#1 WWE Champion AJ Styles (NC)

#2 Samoa Joe (No.1 contender - NC)

#3 The Miz (NC)

#4 Daniel Bryan (NC)

#5 Jeff Hardy (NC)

#6 Randy Orton (NC)

#7 United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura (NC)

#8 Andrade "Cien" Almas (NC)

#9 R-Truth (NC)

#10 Rusev (NC)

Summary

All was quiet here on a ho hum go home show. The most notable action came from Andrade "Cien" Almas, who defeated R-Truth in a way that will certainly lead to a rematch.

The United States Championship remains in the shadows, and, though it was the correct decision at the time, one wonders why WWE chose to take it off Jeff Hardy if he was going to enter an intense singles feud with Randy Orton. Now might be a good time to slide Tye Dillinger into that appropriate #10 spot, even if he just has a filler feud with Nakamura.

SmackDown Women's Division

youtube-cover

#1 SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair (NC)

#2 Becky Lynch (No.1 contender - NC)

#3 Carmella (NC)

#4 Asuka (NC)

#5 Peyton Royce and Billie Kay (NC)

#7 Zelina Vega (NC)

#8 Lana (NC)

#9 Naomi (NC)

#10 Mandy Rose (NC)

Summary

Nearly everything was quiet here, too. Sonya Deville lost to Charlotte Flair, bumping her out of the top 10, since she was sacrificed instead of Mandy. Asuka and Naomi had a cringeworthy promo that, true to Vince McMahon's form, made fun of the former for speaking English as a second language.

It's unlikely that Charlotte Flair drops the title to Becky Lynch on Sunday. The important thing comes in the form of what comes behind that title defense.

SmackDown Tag Team Division

youtube-cover

#1 SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day (NC)

#2 Rusev Day (No. 1 contenders - +1)

#3 The Bar (-1)

#4 The Usos (-1)

#5 Gallows and Anderson (-1)

#6 SAnitY (-1)

#7 The Colons (-1)

Summary

Rusev Day defeated The Bar to ascend into the number one contendership, but that victory will prove hollow, since there's zero chance they defeat the New Day on Sunday. They'll move back down the pecking order as the New Day begins to feud with their old rivals The Bar for Super Show-down next month.

Look for any movement in the division over the next few weeks to see indicators of which team emerges victorious Down Under.

NXT Men's Division

youtube-cover

#1 NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa (NC)

#2 Aleister Black (NC)

#3 Velveteen Dream (NC)

#4 NXT North American Champion Ricochet (NC)

#5 Adam Cole (NC)

#6 Johnny Gargano (NC)

#7 United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne (NC)

#8 Keith Lee (NC)

#9 Lars Sullivan (NC)

#10 Kassius Ohno (NC)

Summary

"Johnny Gargano loses. Aleister Black loses. I win."

Tommaso Ciampa's words on Wednesday are certainly telling, because with Gargano descending further into madness and Black still on the shelf, he has no clear contender for his title. Velveteen Dream appears the likeliest candidate, but none of this was enough to change the standings this week.

In the mid-card, Ricochet will take on Pete Dunne in a champion vs. champion match next week. It will certainly end in a no contest, but it should give us the first concrete hints of what will transpire in the mid-card at TakeOver: War Games II.

NXT Women's Division

youtube-cover

#1 NXT Women's Champion Kairi Sane (NC)

#2 Shayna Baszler (No. 1 contender - NC)

#3 Bianca Belair (NC)

#4 Nikki Cross (+1)

#5 Lacey Evans (-1)

#6 Dakota Kai (NC)

#7 Candice LeRae (NC)

#8 Aliyah (+1)

#9 Deonna Purrazzo (+2)

#10 Taynara Conti (-2)

Summary

Shayna Baszler was enraged this week, but it didn't do anything to change her particular standing. The more interesting development came when Nikki Cross battled Bianca Belair to a draw. A mini feud between them has begun, which bumps cross up a point. Lacey Evans wasn't silent, though, as she partnered with Aliyah to team up against Deonna Purrazzo and Dakota Kai next week.

With both being absent from television over the past few weeks, Taynara Conti and Vanessa Bourne dropped in the standings.

NXT Tag Team Division

youtube-cover

#1 NXT Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Era (NC)

#2 War Raiders (NC)

#3 Moustache Mountain (NC)

#4 Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch (NC)

#5 The Forgotten Sons (NC)

#6 The Street Profits (NC)

#7 Heavy Machinery

#8 The Mighty

#9 Adrian Jaoude and Cezar Bononi

Summary

Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch returned to action this week, defeating Jaoude and Bononi, but none of it changed the standings in the division, except to advertise that we have a new tag team in the form of Jaoude and Bononi.

Cruiserweight Division

youtube-cover

#1 Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander (NC)

#2 Buddy Murphy (No.1 contender, +2)

#3 Drew Gulak (~No. 1 contender, NC)

#4 Hideo Itami (NC)

#5 Mustafa Ali (NC)

#6 Lio Rush (NC)

#7 Akira Tozawa (NC)

#8 Noam Dar (+1)

#9 Gran Metalik (-1)

#10 TJP (NC)

Summary

Drew Gulak was announced as being in a title match with Cedric Alexander next week, but there's no doubt that he'll fail. This clears the way for a proper Alexander/Murphy feud heading into the latter's home town next month.

Gran Metalik fell further down after taking the loss to Murphy, while Dar waits in the wings for a feud with Lio Rush.
