For over two years, Brock Lesnar has enjoyed a dominating run in the WWE, demolishing any opponent that stood in his way. Be it Triple H, John Cena, CM Punk, the Undertaker, or even S.H.I.E.L.D. members Ambrose, Reigns, and Rollins, all have faced the wrath of the “Beast Incarnate”. But come SummerSlam, a new hurdle stands in Brock’s way in the form of Randy Orton. The two will collide in a match dubbed as “15 years in the making”.
While being Brock’s opponent at the biggest event of the summer is in itself a big achievement, Randy can boast of much more. Randy Orton has accomplished quite a bit in his WWE career, being a third generation superstar, a 12-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Intercontinental Champion, 2009 Royal Rumble winner and a future WWE Hall of Fame inductee. While Randy has accomplished a lot in his career, his achievements do not impress Brock Lesnar.
WWE has been fiercely promoting this upcoming bout between Lesnar and Orton on their official Twitter page by posting short interview clips of both men talking about the match, and in one of the clips, Lesnar mocks Orton’s WWE accomplishments, saying that his own accomplishments – NCAA Division 1 Heavyweight Champion, 4-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, 2002 King of the Ring, 2003 Royal Rumble winner, and 1-time UFC Heavyweight Champion – far supersede anything that Orton has ever done.
A few minutes later, WWE posted another video. This time, it was Randy’s chance to respond. “The Viper” began by praising Lesnar. He said that Lesnar had the whole world by the tail and was running things. Then, Randy went on to ridicule Brock’s decision to leave just because he didn’t like people. Randy said, “I don’t like people, and I’m still here. I’d say that became the moment where I realized, well this Lesnar isn’t the guy I thought he was.”
WWE showed these clips during last night’s Raw that aired from Anaheim. Because of the brand split, this may be the final one-on-one match between the two and it is a safe bet to assume that Lesnar will be going over. The booking of this match does seem a bit strange, however, because it will be Orton’s first high-profile match since returning from injury, and typically you’d want a star at the level of Orton to win his first big match back.
But, as previously mentioned, it doesn’t look like “The Viper” will be picking up the win at WWE’s biggest event of the summer. Lesnar is scheduled to return to Raw next week, and it’s unclear if Randy Orton will make yet another surprise appearance on the program.
