WWE News: Vince McMahon unaware that Luke Gallows was festus

Festus with his tag team partner, Jesse

Earlier this year, WWE signed four top attractions of New Japan Pro Wrestling – AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. In that list, Gallows was the only one with previous work experience in WWE.

In his short stay with the company, Gallows portrayed multiple gimmicks which included Imposter Kane, a member of CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society, and most importantly, Festus. Festus was an interesting character, who remained unresponsive until the opening bell of any match. In an episode of Chris Jericho’s podcast, Gallows revealed that Vince McMahon himself helped him to practise the vacant stare of Festus.

It seems astonishing when a person, who has been involved with a character in such capacity, forgot about the wrestler who portrayed the gimmick. Yes, in the recent edition of Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, Luke Gallows stated that Vince McMahon was unaware of the fact that one of his new signees from Japan was Festus.

Karl Anderson in the same podcast, went on to reveal this:

“The best part of the Festus character is that we heard from Talent Relations, or the Head of Talent Relations is that Vince doesn’t even remember that he was Festus. We go up to the Gorilla Position, and Mark Carano would say, I’m going to go tell Vince and remind him that you were Festus. I would say, don’t tell Vince, I need this run right now.”

In fact, Gallows added, “I don’t know if we’re even allowed to say the word, but my wife didn’t even know that I was Festus when I married her, which is real.”

Vince McMahon has to look upon the development of the current storylines, along with the creative plans for future shows. He also plays an important role to improve certain gimmicks. This may be the only reason due to which he failed to recall a tag team which was a part of the company, almost ten years ago.

While discussing his previous run in the company, Luke Gallows also remarked:

“I have a storied past with great gimmicks. It’s great and it’s nice to come and be myself. Again, that is attributed to the Club and what we did in New Japan and everything like that. To finally be yourself is a complete blessing. This trip to the WWE has been a whirlwind, but great.”
