WWE Weekly Rumor Roundup: Vince McMahon's new rule, Undertaker plans (September 9th, 2019)

The WWE is a busy place, and with the Sports Entertainment juggernaut now having shows and live events almost every day of the week, it can be hard to keep up with the day-to-day happenings in the company.

With September now well underway, the month has already seen some huge things unfold.

Not only do we have RAW, SmackDown Live, NXT, NXT UK and 205 Live, but there will also be Clash of Champions this Sunday.

Here are five WWE rumors from this week you really need to know about.

Note: It should be noted that these rumors are just that, rumors. Though some may seem more likely than others, each one should be taken with a pinch of salt, as something to have fun with

#5 Plans for The Deadman

The Phenom will appear this week on SmackDown Live.

The Undertaker has been in WWE for nearly 30 years now and has practically done it all. Facing off against everyone from Hulk Hogan to Mark Henry, the Deadman has had a legendary career, much of which took place on SmackDown Live.

Being moved to the blue brand in 2002, the Deadman would become the flag-bearer for the so-called B-Show, and was a permanent fixture on the show for years before he transitioned into a part-time Superstar a decade ago. This week, the Demon of Death Valley will return to SmackDown Live which will take place inside the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden.

Whilst this return has led to speculation of another match for The Undertaker in the near future, this won't be the case, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The Deadman has been very active compared to his usual standards this year, competing at Super Showdown against Goldberg, and later teaming with Roman Reigns to face Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon at Extreme Rules. Though the SmackDown Live return won't be setting up a match, expect one in the future for the former World Champion.

#4 Former WWE Superstar heading to Impact

The scarred Sabu was in WWE for a year but could be heading to Impact Wrestling in the very near future

When WWE relaunched ECW in 2006, one of the show's biggest stars from the original promotion was Sabu. Though he never held gold in WWE during his tenure, Sabu was a consistent force on the company's ECW brand when the show was presented by WWE, living up to his moniker of the most death-defying man in wrestling.

According to a recent report by PW Insider though, the extreme legend could soon once again be in the ring, though this time with Impact Wrestling. This wouldn't be the first time that the former Extreme star will have been part of the company, as Sabu was a part of the show when TNA Wrestling launched in 2002 and returned to the company in 2010 with several ECW alum.

The extreme legend even had a handful of matches with Impact earlier this year and is seemingly poised for a return. As a veteran of ECW, TNA, and WWE, there is plenty that the legend could teach for the stars of today and tomorrow inside Impact Wrestling.

#3 McMahon sends out new rule to writers

The Boss has tried to motivate his creative team backstage.

WWE in 2019 is an interesting place to be. After spending years unchallenged as the top show in wrestling (at least in North America), the rise of All Elite Wrestling and it's successful shows such as Double or Nothing and All Out, has led to many fans flocking away from WWE for the new promotion.

Since AEW's launch, WWE and the company have gone back and forth in a slow-burning war between the two, with NXT and AEW on TNT set to compete against each other in what fans are calling the Wednesday Night Wars. According to Bryan Alverez on Wrestling Observer Radio this week, WWE chair Vince McMahon has told writers he wants them to be "really creative" from now on.

What that means isn't exactly clear, as storyline writers, by definition, are already expected to be creative, so it'll be interesting to see whether this mandate will have any major effect on the product fans see on TV. Whilst we don't know what will happen for sure, expect more retaliatory strikes by both AEW and WWE in the months to come.

#2 The Monster Among Men takes the weekend off

The Monster Among Men was missing from Live events this past weekend.

This week, Monday Night RAW Superstar Braun Strowman could have the biggest week of his young career. Tonight, Strowman will be a part of a huge contract signing with Seth Rollins and will share the ring with WWE Hall of Famer 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin.

This Sunday, at Clash of Champions, Strowman will team with The Architect to defend the RAW Tag Team Titles against Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, in what will be the first of two matches of the night for the Monster. Win, lose or draw in the tag match, Rollins and Strowman will later face off against each other for the Beastslayer's Universal title.

With all that on his plate, Strowman could do with some R&R, and according to Wrestling Observer Radio, was given this weekend off by WWE. Missing Live events this weekend, it's unclear why Strowman was missing from the shows, as he doesn't seem to be working with an injury. Whatever the reason, hopefully, the Monster Among Men will be healthy for what could be the biggest week of his career.

#1 NXT to keep some things the same after move to the USA Network

The first two episodes of NXT on USA will start on the channel, but finish on the WWE Network.

In just a matter of days, the WWE's third brand, NXT, will undergo the biggest change in the program since it's relaunch as the company's developmental ground in 2012. On September 18, the yellow brand will be extended to two hours long and will be moved from the WWE Network to the USA Network.

This move has led to plenty of speculation on what the future holds for NXT, as some are believing the show will no longer be seen as a developmental brand, but instead as a third separate entity to RAW and SmackDown Live. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter though, NXT is still expected to do call-ups to both RAW and SmackDown in the future, even after the show moves to the USA Network.

Since it's relaunch in 2012, NXT has been consistently considered the best thing in WWE, and though fans should expect some changes to the yellow brand, it seems that the content and consistency of the show will remain the same.
