WWE Rumours: Divas title to get re-branded as Women's Championship?

Charlotte became Divas Champion after ending a record reign by Nikki Bella.

The women of WWE could be fighting for a re-branded championship after WrestleMania.

According to a report from SEScoops.com, the Divas Championship will be converted back to the Women’s Championship during the episode of RAW the Monday after WrestleMania 32. The title will be on the line at that event in a Triple Threat match between champion Charlotte and challengers Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch.

The title was created in 2008 as part of the “brand split” storyline and was unified with the Women’s Championship in 2010. The Women’s Championship had been in existence since 1956, when it was a part of the NWA promotion.

In recent years, fans of women’s wrestling have been critical of the WWE’s Divas designation for its women and even the butterfly-centric design of the belt itself. That would also be changing to a belt similar to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, except smaller and white, if reports are true. Multiple outlets credit PWInsider.com as the original source for the story, but no such item could be found on the non-subscription area of the site as of Wednesday afternoon.

A change of that magnitude would likely mean that the championship is changing hands at WrestleMania, adding to the existing excitement surrounding the match. Banks recently added fuel to that hype by suggesting that her ring gear and entrance would be “pretty big” and worth watching the event for.
