WWE Rumours: SmackDown Live to add another title

Will Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan unveil another championship for SmackDown Live?

Daily Wrestling News is reporting that there are backstage rumours about Vince McMahon wanting both Raw and SmackDown to have the same number of championships. The reason behind this is unclear but is probably something along the lines of having the same number of championship belts putting both shows on an equal footing.

Although this championship that will be added to SmackDown Live isn’t final yet, the early plans are for SmackDown Live to get its own division of Cruiserweights. This, however, depends on the reception that Raw’s Cruiserweight Division gets. WWE has hyped up the launch of the Cruiserweight Division in recent weeks but sources backstage are uncertain at how invested Vince McMahon will be in this division. Vince has never been a big fan of cruiserweight wrestling and the WWE Light Heavyweight Division back in the Attitude Era was an unmitigated disaster.

Sources say that even though Vince himself doesn’t have much faith in the division, it’s Triple H who is leading the charge of the cruiserweights. After the roaring success of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, Hunter is hell bent on bringing that style of fast paced action to the main roster.

Several names have already been confirmed for Raw’s Cruiserweight Division. They include NXT performers such as Rich Swann, Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano who also competed in the CWC. There are also several Superstars who were initially signed just for the CWC who are being advertised as a part of Raw like TJ Perkins, Gran Metalik, Cedric Alexander and the returning Brian Kendrick.

No names have been spoken about as far as the SmackDown cruiserweight division is concerned but expect a few more names to be brought in from the Cruiserweight Classic. There are still a number of talented competitors who are yet to sign with WWE like Sean Maluta, Mustafa Ali and Lince Dorado. WWE should also try to sign Zack Sabre Jr and Kota Ibushi who have repeatedly said that they aren’t going to sign with WWE for the time being. Both ZSJ and Ibushi are internationally renowned Superstars who could be the face of either cruiserweight division.

Apart from signing new stars, SmackDown Live also has a few very talented cruiserweights like Kalisto, Tyler Breeze and the recently popular heath Slater on its roster. SmackDown Live can have its own exciting division of high-flying action with a few more signings. The base is already there.
