Ben Simmons trade: Taking a look at 3 potential teams the Australian superstar could join if he leaves Brooklyn Nets

Ben Simmons has not found individual success as a member of the Brooklyn Nets. The three-time All-Star is averaging 8.3 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, 6.0 assists per game, 1.3 steals per game, and 0.5 blocks per game while shooting 61.7% from the field.

While there haven't been many rumors of the Nets attempting to move Simmons, the organization could look to do so if he doesn't improve his play. There aren't likely to be many suitors for Simmons, who still has nearly $80 million on his contract after this season. However, three teams could potentially show interest with the hopes that he rebounds to the player he was in Philadelphia.

The most obvious suitor for Simmons is the LA Lakers. Simmons is signed to Klutch Sports, whose CEO, Rich Paul, happens to be a close friend of LeBron James. LeBron and co-star Anthony Davis are both also signed to Klutch.

Additionally, the Lakers have been holding out on a Russell Westbrook in hopes of acquiring a star. While it may be a stretch to call Simmons a star at this point of his career, if the Lakers believe he can bounce back, they may kick the tires on a potential swap. Despite the rumors that have previously circulated, it is difficult to envision either side being interested as things currently stand.

Another option would be Charlotte Hornets, who could be looking to shed the contract of Terry Rozier and/or Gordon Hayward. Both players could help the Nets, who are in win-now mode, while the rebuilding Hornets would be buying low on Simmons' upside. Pairing him with LaMelo Ball could form a dangerous backcourt if he is able to bounce back.

Finally, the Portland Trail Blazers were the strongest suitor for Simmons prior to his trade to Brooklyn. They were reportedly willing to include CJ McCollum in a package for the disgruntled Simmons. While McCollum is no longer in Portland, Simmons value has plummeted over the past year. The Trail Blazers could look to revisit trade talks and buy low in hopes that Simmons bounce back alongside Damian Lillard.

How will Brooklyn Nets be affected if Ben Simmons is traded?

While Ben Simmons hasn't lived up to expectations alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets are currently 20-12, winning 18 of their past 24 games. Although Simmons ranks just eighth on the team in points per game and field goal attempts per game, he leads the team in assists per game and steals per game, while ranking third in rebounds per game.

If Simmons is ultimately moved, the Nets will need to replace his production, primarily in the playmaking and perimeter defense department. With things currently clicking in Brooklyn, the organization may be best-suited to keep Simmons if they are unable to find a trade partner that can facilitate and defend the perimeter.
