Jay Williams on future of Kevin Durant: “I’m not sure about seeing Kevin Durant on Nets at all”

Kevin Durant is now a lone star for the Brooklyn Nets after Kyrie Irving demanded a trade that was fulfilled within days by the front office. Afterwards, there's been a question on how long Durant will stay with the Nets now that he doesn't have a star to play second fiddle alongside him.

Former NBA player Jay Williams said that Durant is unlikely to stay in Brooklyn. There are other teams that could pursue the two-time champion, whether it's at this season's trade deadline or in the offseason. Williams was also asked on who between KD and Irving is most likely to stay with their current teams. He answered with this:

"Likely, I think Kevin Durant's still on the Nets. I don't like both those odds, frankly. I don't like either one. I think both are wrong. I'm not sure if I see Kevin Durant on the Nets at all."

Regarding Irving, Williams said:

"I see him somewhere else, and I just keep imagining Kyrie Irving, if the Lakers don't make a move by the trade deadline and decide to stay in path, it'll be tough for LeBron (James) to do, but I do see Kyrie Irving becoming a guy that wears Purple and Gold."

With Durant's contract, he's secured until the 2025-26 season. This could mean that the 6-foot-10 All-Star might stay long-term in Brooklyn. However, that's still unclear. He tried to leave the team during the offseason but was ultimately let down after the team failed to get a reasonable return package.

But in comparison to Irving, Durant looks more willing to help the team achieve its goals. So far, the Nets have started talking with the 13-time All-Star about the direction of the team. Based on reports, it looks like Brooklyn isn't ready to part ways with Durant and has not made him available for a trade.

While many are worried about who will step up for Kevin Durant, Cam Thomas answered the questions after the Nets' last game.

In Monday's game against the LA Clippers, Thomas erupted for 47 points. Although the game ended as a 124-116 loss, it was still an impressive outing from the second-year player who accumulated 17 games in which he did not play this season. He had 44 points in Saturday's 125-123 win over the Washington Wizards.

Many might point out that it should be Ben Simmons' task to step up, and that probably won't happen. Luckily for Nets fans, a different former LSU player could emerge from the ashes and take over the franchise in the future. The Nets organization could be in good hands with Thomas.
