Michael Jordan is reportedly very close to selling the Charlotte Hornets. The six-time NBA champion was an exceptional basketball player, but his ownership of the team has been a disaster.

The basketball legend acquired a majority ownership stake in the team in 2010. Since then, Charlotte has made the playoffs only three times, but has never advanced past the first round.

Colin Cowherd criticized MJ for the decisions he's made as the owner of the basketball team. However, the analyst did not stop there as he also spoke negatively about Jordan's playing career.

Michael Jordan was criticized by Colin Cowherd

Less than a decade after retiring as a basketball player, Michael Jordan decided to invest his money into the NBA. He purchased the Charlotte Hornets in 2010 for $275 million, although the team is worth much more money at the moment.

Many basketball fans and analysts criticized Jordan's ownership of the team. The basketball legend was involved in several awful trades and he reportedly employed several members of his family to take care of the Hornets.

“Take out Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson, this whole Michael Jordan mythology is sort of just that,” Colin Cowherd said about the basketball legend.

Cowherd is well known for criticizing Jordan. The basketball analyst doesn't even believe that the Chicago Bulls legend would have been successful if he had played in the modern NBA.

While it's true that Jordan hasn't achieved any significant success with the Hornets, criticizing his basketball career doesn't make a lot of sense. Phil Jackson and Scottie Pippen were crucial to the Bulls, but so was Jordan.

The legendary guard had numerous impressive achievements during his playing career, including six championships and five MVP awards.

How much could Jordan sell the Charlotte Hornets for?

The Charlotte Hornets are 22-50 and are one of the four teams to be eliminated from playoff contention. The 2022-23 season was another failure for the Hornets, who last made the playoffs in 2016.

Michael Jordan could potentially sell the Hornets for as much as $2 billion. The basketball legend reportedly owns around 80% of the team, yet Forbes estimates its value at $1.7 billion.

According to Forbes, the Hornets rank 27th among 30 NBA teams in terms of value. However, it's important to note that this is just an estimate of the team's value and the team could be sold for much more.
