5 moments from KKR Vs MI match that don’t fade away

Rayudu smashed his way to a fifty in 32 balls with a lip-smacking six over backward square leg

Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians came up against each other in match no. 54 of Vivo IPL 10. It was a must win match for KKR as they required two points to confirm a place in the top two. After winning the toss, the hosts opted to bowl first in front of a jam-packed Eden Gardens.

On the back of Ambati Rayudu and SaurabhTiwary’s individual half centuries, Mumbai Indians posted a challenging total of 173 on the board. But, all of KKR’s promising batsmen disappointed in the chase and gifted Mumbai their second win over them this season as the visitors won by 9 runs to regain their spot at the top of the table.

Here are 5 memorable moments from the match that don't fade away, quite like the Axe Signature range of body perfumes:

#1 Ambati Rayudu’s innings

Ambati Rayudu, who was playing only his second match of the season, came out to bat at No.4 and was lucky to survive on 10 after Robin Uthappa dropped him off Sunil Narine. But in no time, he blazed his way to a fifty in 32 balls with a lip-smacking six over backward square leg.

He was soon joined by Pollard, who joined the six-hitting party soon and ripped through the KKR bowlers. Rayudu, who hit Kuldeep Yadav for 10 runs in the previous three balls, was outfoxed by the Chinaman bowler.

He came dancing down the track, could not read Kuldeep’s googly and got his stumps rattled by Robin Uthappa. But, he had caused enough damage before that as he departed for a well made 63 off 37 balls.

#2 Saurabh Tiwary and Rohit Sharma’s partnership

Though Tiwary had a slow start, he soon launched into Narine en route his first half-century this season

Rohit Sharma was joined by SaurabhTiwary in the middle when the bowling conditions were favouring the pacers. The pair brought up their 50-run stand in 29 balls.

The stand was broken when Ankit Rajpoot struck into his first over, removing Rohit. The Mumbai Indians captain tried to nudge the ball towards third man, but he missed the line and got struck in front of the stumps for 27.

Though Tiwary had a slow start, he soon launched into Narine en route his first half-century this season. He got to his fifty in 42 balls and was soon run out by Umesh Yadav. After losing Simmons early, this partnership brought back the momentum for Mumbai Indians.

#3 Trent Boult’s final over

The final over from Trent Boult saw only 4 runs coming from it

At one point it looked as though the Mumbai Indians would go past 180 easily. But the final over from Trent Boult saw only 4 runs coming from it – an over which also saw the dangerous Kieron Pollard lose his wicket.

A low full toss that dipped on Pollard hit the all-rounder’s toe end of the bat and ballooned in the air. Pollard got the height on it, but not the distance. Yusuf Pathan took the catch at the edge of the 30-yard circle while running backwards.

#4 KKR’s batsmen disappoint

KKR’s failure to start well resulted in them losing the top two spot

Sunil Narine gets out on a duck, Robin Uthappa goes on 2, and Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir manage to score insignificant scores of 26 and 21 respectively. This explains the prowess of the Mumbai bowlers on the day. Although runs kept coming, wickets kept falling at regular intervals to suck away the confidence and freedom from the hosts.

Chris Lynn looked in good touch when he hit two sixes and three fours en route his 14-ball 26, but was caught by J Suchith off a Vinay Kumar delivery in an attempt to hit big. Their failure to start well resulted in them losing the top two spot.

#5 Yusuf Pathan and Colin de Grandhomme’s cameos

Pathan batted fearlessly to contribute 20 runs in 7 balls before getting out

Yusuf Pathan came in at a time when wickets were falling one after the other, but from the word go, he batted fearlessly to contribute 20 runs in 7 balls. He batted without fear and despite watching other batsmen fall early, smashed the ball out of the park thrice in his very brief cameo.

Colin de Grandhomme replicated the Indian’s performance by hitting 4 fours and a six on his way to a 16-ball 29. Yusuf and Grandhomme’s innings shifted the momentum in KKR’s favour, but once the latter was dismissed, Mumbai went on to seize the match.
