James Pattinson released from 12th man duties to join Shield side two days into their match

Pattinson will play in the Sheffield Shield

Australian pacer James Pattinson, who was called in as a 12th man for the historic day/night Test match, has now been released from the team, and will take part in the Sheffield Shield tournament, reports Fox Sports.

What is remarkable about Pattinson’s call-up to the Shield side is that he will play only the back end of the match, having spent the first few days of the first class match on Australia duty.

The 25-year old will represent his team Victoria Bushrangers in their match against Western Australia, in Perth. Since the retirement of Mitchell Johnson, Pattinson was called in as a replacement, but had to make way for the more experienced Peter Siddle.

Pattinson will fly back to Perth at the end of the first session of the ongoing third Test between Australia and New Zealand, which will be played under lights. The pacer has been in good form in the domestic format, but has failed to feature in the national team for a while now.

Pattinson to replace Tremain: Victoria

Victorian Chairman of Selectors Andrew Lynch said that Pattinson would be available for Victoria’s match on Sunday. “James will be available to play from Sunday, following a day’s rest after travel and will replace Chris Tremain.”

Meanwhile, Peter Siddle dismissed Doug Bracewell, to take his 200th Test wicket, and his first under lights. New Zealand, who won the toss and chose to bat first in the first-ever day/night Test match, were dismissed for 202 in their first innings, soon after dinner break.

Interestingly, the Australian team therapist was seen fulfilling the duties of a 12th man, as he came in as a substitution, after dinner break.
