Waqar Younis has the most number of five-wicket hauls in ODIs

Here is a list of players with the most five-wicket hauls in ODIcricket. Waqar Younis tops the list with 13 five-wicket hauls in his international career spanning 14 years.

1. Waqar Younis (13)

His name would spring in to people’s minds as soon as you talk about hitting the base of leg stump with late swing. Waqar was so famous for that. He had a ripper of a one day career as he picked up 416 wickets which consisted of 13 five-wicket hauls. To go with those 13, he also has 14 four wicket hauls. His best figures of 7/36 came against England.

2. Muttiah Muralitharan (10)

The world’s greatest spinner comes in at number 2 with 10 five wicket hauls to his name. He is the leading wicket taker with 534 wickets and he has also picked up 15 four wicket hauls in his stellar career. He once picked up a seven wicket haul against India in 2000 conceding only 30 runs.

3. Brett Lee (9)

Brett Lee comes in at number 3 with 9 five-wicket hauls. Four of those nine came against India which was looked at upon as one of the best batting sides. He too like Waqar has fourteen four wicket hauls and a stunning average of just 23. His best figures of 5 for 22 came against the saffers in the VB series in 2006.

4. Shahid Afridi (9)

Afridi’s presence is certainly a surprise considering that initially in his career, he made headlines more for his batting than bowling. He is fast approaching 400 wickets in the format and currently has nine five wicket hauls which includes a stunning 7 for 12 in his comeback game against the windies.

5. Lasith Malinga (7)

The only man in the list who is yet to play 200 matches in the format. Lasith’s deadly death bowling skills have fetched him so many wickets in his career and he isn’t done yet. Currently he has seven 5-wicket hauls to his name.
