It is anyone's title, say Alonso and Vettel

Greater Noida - Title contenders Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso are not reading much into the ongoing trend of the Formula 1 season. With four races to go and Vettel having a six point lead, the duo feel it would all boil down to who has a better “package” on the day.

Red Bull’s Vettel has a clear edge over the Ferrari driver going into this weekend’s Indian Grand Prix and the other three rounds after that.

Vettel, who won the inaugural race here last year, is expected to repeat the feat, looking at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) characteristics.

“I am not a strong believer in numbers. We had ups and downs and we were able to improve in the second half of the season. This is exactly what the other people are also trying to do, trying to improve their car for the remainder of season,” said Vettel, who comes with three straight victories behind him.

On racing in India again, Vettel said: “I have good memories of 2011, it was a fantastic race last year. We got the pole and I won the race. That was special. Off the track, it was a great too.”

Alonso, on the other hand, will have to come up with something special after conceding the drivers’ championship lead in Korea. He knows it would be difficult to stop Vettel from a third successive world crown.

“It would be tough to beat him but we are confident about our chances. We need to raise our level of competitiveness,” said Alonso at the team’s hospitality here at the BIC.

The Spaniard stressed that it was important to put up a good showing in qualifying.

“Those two incidents would not have happened had we qualified higher on the grid. We must have the fastest car on Saturday, it helps us tremendously going into Sunday,” explained Alonso on his accidents in Belgium and Japan where he started fifth and sixth, respectively, on the grid.

“It is a battle of package from now on,” he added.

Ferrari have already promised “aggressive development” on the car for the remaining races.
