According to the latest research conducted by RadiumOne, Arsenal has found themselves in top of the Premier League table on basis of social media performances after first ten games of the season.

Defending champions Manchester United came in second while Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham completed the top five. The research was conducted with respect to the amount of stories shared about the teams in the leading sports news websites and also the interaction of the respective clubs with their fans.

Arsenal improved on their preseason social media performance as the club was rooted in the sixth spot before the season. Meanwhile, Everton who topped the standings in preseason was pushed down to the sixth place as United and Chelsea showed improvements. Manchester City ended up in sixth with Everton on seventh. High flyers Southampton came in eight with Sunderland and West Ham in ninth and tenth respectively.

“The correlation between the levels of support we’re seeing for teams and the results they are getting suggests there is a lot of power in fan support. Fans shouldn’t underestimate the impact that they can have on their teams. For the clubs, there is an opportunity here to really make the most of the social engagement that they are seeing. The trick is turning support via social networks into increased match-day attendances and club shop revenues with shrewd advertising campaigns,” said Abeed Janmohamed, Commercial Director at RadiumOne.

“If clubs know who their fans are and who these fans are connected to online, there’s an opportunity for clubs to make use of this intelligence to market themselves more effectively to passive and would-be fans. Given the clear impact that these fans can have on a club’s performance, there’s a compelling reason to engage,” he added.
