Fernando Torres stats

Fernando Torres

Fernando Torres’ injury-time goal following a moment of miscommunication between Joe Hart and Matija Nastasic handed Chelsea all three points in a thrilling encounter between two of the favourites for the Premier League title. The Spaniard helped open the scoring; providing Andre Schurrle with a fine assist before Sergio Aguero beat Petr Cech with an emphatic near-post finish shortly after half-time.

Chelsea

Petr Cech (22)

The Czech goalkeeper seemed taken by surprise by Sergio Aguero’s first-time effort which beat him at his near post. He made some good saves thereafter to deny the visitors a second.

Branislav Ivanovic (14)

Won all four of his take ons, more than any of his Chelsea team-mates.

Ashley Cole (33)

The full-back completed 94% of his passes, including one key pass: an impressive total for the left-back.

A typically dominant display, Terry made seven clearances over the course of the match and marshalled his defence under pressure from Manchester City.

Frank Lampard (17)

A quiet afternoon for Lampard, he failed to make a single tackle or win a single headed duel in his 65 minutes on the pitch.

Ramires (-7)

Attempted the most passes of any Chelsea player – having a god at 47 passes, including two key passes.

Andre Schurrle (36)

Man of the Match at half time by Squawka Performance Score, the German opened the scoring for Chelsea but endured a tougher second half and was substituted in the 65th minute.

Oscar (-5)

Worked hard but unable to influence the game as he would have wanted.

Eden Hazard (-5)

A sluggish day for the Belgian, Hazard made no key passes and failed to take a shot on goal in the time that he was on the pitch.

Fernando Torres (72)

Having blazed over when he should have done better, the early signs were that Torres’ problems were going to endure. However he then turned it around in spectacular style with a surging run for to set up Schurrle’s goal, a cracking shot onto the bar, and the Blues’ late winner.

Fernando Torres stats

Substitutes:

Willian

Scored a performance score of -3 in his brief appearance.

Samuel Eto’o

Did little of note in his short cameo, apart from a late foul and lots of apologetic hugging.

John Obi Mikel

Tidy in possession when he came on, Mikel made 90% of his passes in his 25 minute spell on the pitch.

Manchester City:

Joe Hart (-35)

The England goalkeeper was enjoying a fairly uneventful game up until the final few minutes when he inexplicably rushed off his line to hand Fernando Torres the chance to tap in the winner into an unguarded goal.

Pablo Zabaleta (-20)

Had the lowest pass accuracy of any starting outfield City player – a lowly 71%.

Gael Clichy (-23)

A poor day for the left-back, he was beaten by Torres far too easily for a supposedly pacey defender in the run up to the opening goal

Matija Nastasic (-25)

Made seven clearances and 94% of his passes, but all that will be forgotten thanks to his mix up with Joe Hart. Didn’t cover himself in glory by failing to spot Hart, however kamikaze the Head and Shoulders model behind him was.

Martin Demichelis (10)

Widely expected to be City’s weak link, Demichelis experienced a solid debut and defied his recent lack of games to score a performance score of 18.

Javi Garcia (14)

Despite his inability to tackle causing him to walk a disciplinary tightrope, Garcia impressed in possession and made 95% of his tackles. This amounts to one misplaced pass out of 49 attempted.

Javi Garcia stats

Yaya Toure (7)

Tidy in possession Toure made 90% of his passes, but failed to exhibit many of his trademark driving runs.

Fernandinho (7)

Made 2 key passes – the joint most of any City player alongside Silva.

Samir Nasri (9)

Chelsea struggled to deal with Nasri’s movement, as he constantly picked up pockets of space when coming in from his left sided berth. On one such foray he played the crucial ball in to Aguero for City’s goal.

Samir Nasri stats

David Silva (19)

Impressive alongside Nasri and in behind Aguero, The Spaniard completed more passes than any other City player – 56.

Sergio Aguero (51)

Unfortunate to be on the losing side, Aguero led the line excellently for City and to his goal expertly.

Substitutes:

Aleksandar Kolarov (6)

Only on long enough to attempt one pass. But he made it.

Jesus Navas (6)

Made one successful take on, but could only manage a pass accuracy of 62% -meaning he misplaced 5 of his 13 passes.

Alvaro Negredo (-7)

Not on long enough to make a significant impact.
