Report: Chelsea chasing Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels

Mats Hummels is a transfer target for Chelsea

English defending Champions, Chelsea, are reportedly after Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels in the summer. With John Terry resolved to leave the club at the end of the season and with Gary Cahill heavily out of form, the Londoners have identified the 27-year-old German as the one who could complete their team.

Antonio Conte – who is said to be closing in on the Chelsea job – has his eyes on Real Madrid and Barcelona target, Hummels, as his first signing. The German will have only a year left on his contract at the end of this season and the Italian manager is making use of the low valuation he'll get to lure him to the Premier League.

Hummels could be set for a massive pay hike given he'll miss out playing in the UEFA Champions League next season with Chelsea expected to finish nowhere close to the top four with a Europa League spot at the least touted.

Thomas Tuchel will be disheartened that he's losing one of his best defenders but has the likes of Neven Suboti and Sokratis Papastathopoulos to ensure the club doesn't have to necessarily dive into the transfer market for another top-class centre-half.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been identifying multiple targets they want to sign in the summer to ensure they don't repeat what happened this season. Currently in midtable, Roman Abramovich has reportedly decided to shake up the squad and sign players in multiple positions with the likes of Paulo Dybala, Leonardo Bonucci and Marco Verratti often cited.

There are also a bunch of players who are tipped to leave the club with the likes of John Terry, John Obi Mikel, Oscar and Eden Hazard all ready to move on. Real Madrid are said to be interested in signing the Belgian, Hazard while Juventus have often enquired about the availability of Oscar.
