Eden Hazard likely to miss Champions League semi-final clash with Atletico Madrid

Chelsea v Galatasaray AS - UEFA Champions League Round of 16

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard looks set to miss his side’s Champions League semifinal first leg clash against La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid as he is struggling to recover from a calf injury.

The Belgian picked up the injury in Chelsea’s second leg win in the quarter finals of the Champions League against Paris St Germain. Hazard was substituted after just 17 minutes on that night and has not featured for the club since.

He has also not returned to training yet which makes his playing at the Vicente Calderon tomorrow night all the more unlikely.

Chelsea’s assistant coach Steve Holland also admitted that it would be difficult to see Hazard on the pitch on Tuesday as he has not trained ahead of the crucial tie.

“Normal procedure is that you wouldn’t ask a player to play in a game without some training beforehand, so it’s a tight period for him to be made available for that game,” said Holland.

“He’s got to train with the group in the next couple of days,” he added.

Chelsea will face a tough task against Atletico Madrid who are the only remaining unbeaten side in this season’s Champions League. The Los Rojiblancos have been a force to reckon with at home and beat FC Barcelona to book their place in the last 4.

The first leg of the semi-final will be played at the Vicente Calderon on Tuesday night.
